Little Heather

ASH (American, b. 1973)
Mixed media on wood panel

In Little Heather, ASH creates a hauntingly beautiful intersection between the human form and the raw power of the natural world. The central figure, an ethereal, dark-haired woman, is literally and figuratively rooted in the forest. Her crown of golden roses stands out against the gnarled, obsidian-like bark that surrounds her.
The artist’s signature impasto technique uses thick, heavy brushstrokes to create a physical texture that resembles the organic irregularities of wood and earth. This tactile quality, combined with the subject’s intricate, swirling tattoos, suggests a figure that is ancient and primordial. Through this moody, gothic style, ASH explores themes of transformation, resilience, and the wild that lives within the soul.

Artist Spotlight: ASH
