Mi ne to

Artist: ASH (Mark R. Watson)
Medium: Oil on Canvas

Description
In this powerful portrait, artist Mark R. Watson, known as ASH, captures a moment of quiet vigilance. The subject is portrayed as a Chickamauga warrior, standing against a rugged, mountainous landscape that reflects the frontier of the late 18th century.

ASH uses a rich, impasto technique, applying thick layers of oil paint to create a tactile, three-dimensional effect. This textured surface mirrors the strength of the subject and the harsh beauty of the landscape. Mi ne to is shown in traditional attire, carrying a long rifle across his shoulders and a hand-forged tomahawk at his side, tools of survival and resistance.

The Chickamauga tribe historically were a group who, led by figures like Dragging Canoe, chose to continue their fight against colonial expansion. Through this artwork, ASH honors the individual spirit and the larger historical story of a people committed to protecting their sovereignty and way of life.
